MDA d Awards makes its debut in Malaysia’s digital scene

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 June 2014 – Exciting times are ahead for digital specialists and advertising professionals as the first-ever MDA d Awards is now open for entries for its 2014 nomination.

Organised by the Malaysian Digital Association (MDA), the 2014 MDA d Awards is the first of what is to be an awards event, dedicated to reward, recognise and celebrate the exceptional talents and works in the local digital landscape.

The launch of the inaugural MDA d Awards saw leaders of the digital industry including Stan Chew from Starcom MediaVest Group and Chairman of the MDA d Awards, Kenneth Wong from CARAT Media Services and President of MDA, and Jordan Chua from Tequila-Myalo Malaysia and Secretary of MDA, share information and progress updates on the overall local digital industry scene.

“The digital advertising and marketing industry has undergone tremendous growth these past few years. In response, the MDA d Awards was created to showcase all the best digital works created in Malaysia, giving due recognition to talents and their ideas that bring industry standards to a whole new level. This in turn will enhance the industry’s capabilities and connectivity, and provide greater exposure for MDA, its members, as well as other key industry players both locally and globally,” stated Kenneth Wong at the launch today.

The MDA d Awards features nine categories and one special award for participants to compete in. They include Content and Distribution, Technology and Innovation, Mobile, Online Advertising Innovations, Social Media, Entertainment, Digital Out of Home, Performance Marketing, Digital Journey, and the 2014 d-Awards Grand Prix Winner.

Elaborating on the awards, Stan Chew, Chairman of MDA d Awards said, “All nine categories have been carefully selected to encompass the diverse and broad nature of the digital industry. Although distinct in themselves, the judging criteria of these categories will take into account the entries’ strategic and creative initiative, freshness of content, and effectiveness in bringing new experience and interacting with the targeted audience, among others. Meanwhile, the special award will go to the most outstanding entry among all the winners in terms of tech usage and digital interactivity.”

Stan also expressed optimism in garnering an enthusiastic response to the MDA d Awards, attracting a substantial quantity of innovative and groundbreaking work that will benchmark the progress of the industry, which is not limited to agencies but also publishers and advertisers.

Commenting on the growth and comparison of the different digital advertising platforms in Malaysia, Jordan Chua explained that while social media platforms are the most widely used, there is no one particularly successful platform that can stand alone.

“The digital world is an ecosystem where all platforms work together. For example, new portals or websites usually functions as content providers where users share these information on their social media pages. This is why MDA is organizing the MDA d Awards designed specifically to reward and recognize all the amazing work across all digital platforms,” said Jordan.

Deadline for all submissions is on 16 July 2014, where fees of RM50 for MDA members and RM100 for non-members are applicable. Late submissions are acceptable until 23 July 2014, with late fees of RM100 for MDA members and RM150 for non-members levied.
