From President’s Desk
1 month into 2021, I believe not a single business is spare from the impact of COVID\MCO. The challenges we had in 2020 continues to stay on. Some I know wish 2020 is a bad nightmare that didn’t happen!
Despite that, I genuinely believe there was much positive from 2020 at least from digital transformation lens, COVID\MCO has accelerated adoption of digital by miles. Video conferencing, Edtech, Ewallet, remote and collaborative working has become a norm made possible by the digital tool. In fact, many of these technologies been around for many years, but adoption was a challenge.
Multiple sources published reports that digital content consumption (games, music stream, news and video streaming) has grown between 20-30%. At the peak of Malaysia MCO 1.0 in March 2020, some of these platforms reported up to 50% growth of usage. As an ecosystem, I saw many organizations collaborated on problem-solving that benefited everyone in times of need, especially in Edtech, E- Wallet, Media and Delivery\Distribution.
As we brave through 2021, there are many opportunities as a digital organization can be unlocked with these positive digital usage growth as a foundation. As an ecosystem, we need to continue to collaborate to support each other’s growth closely. That is precisely what MDA intends to drive over the next period – collectively work with both government and private sector to empower and nurture all digital businesses professions it represents to thrive.
Over the months, the MDA council members have worked tirelessly to plan this. MDA aims to achieve this through new 6 key pillars – Community Building, Powering Innovation, Technical Governance, Knowledge, Communication and Research & Measurement (more details at http://www.malaysiandigitalassociation.org.my).
I look forward to driving forward because we are #StrongerTogether. We welcome collaboration, partnership and becoming a member if you are not.
